Position Overview

We are seeking a technically sharp Engineering Intern to join our Provider Solutions team. This is an applied opportunity to put AI tools to work on real marketing enablement and content creation challenges alongside experienced engineers and product professionals. You will gain direct exposure to LLM-powered workflows, internal knowledge base operations, and the intersection of engineering capability and business output. This internship is structured for someone who has already built something real with AI and is ready to do it again — at scale, with purpose, from day one.

This is a full-time internship that will span over the course of 10 weeks. The program will start Monday, June 1, 2024 and end Friday, August 7.

Who Will Love This Role

  • A builder who has gone beyond tutorials — someone with a GitHub repo, live demo, or project write-up that proves they can take an idea from concept to output.
  • An AI practitioner who has worked hands-on with LLM APIs or SDKs and understands the difference between using a tool and building on top of one.
  • A self-starter who can navigate ambiguity, ask the right questions, and identify where AI adds real value — not just where it’s technically possible.
  • A curious learner who wants to understand how AI-assisted content workflows connect to product marketing and sales enablement.
  • A collaborative contributor who thrives working across technical and non-technical teams and builds skills through mentorship from experienced professionals.

What you will work on

  • Use DrFirst’s internal knowledge base and Claude-powered tools to generate production-ready marketing assets — including one-pagers, product slicks, handouts, and lightweight marketing web pages.
  • Support marketing collateral and content needs for the ERX Retail (e-prescribing) product line.
  • Drive AI-assisted content creation for the ERX Enterprise product suite, including Gadget.
  • Operate and extend Claude-based workflows to reduce manual content development lift for the team.
  • Identify friction points in existing AI workflows and propose or implement improvements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and marketing team members on cross-functional Provider Solutions initiatives.
  • Learn to navigate internal tools and knowledge systems, with guidance and training provided.

Qualifications

Required

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Demonstrated AI project experience — a personal or contributed project involving an LLM tool or API, with a public artifact (GitHub repo, live demo, or write-up) preferred.
  • Hands-on experience working with an LLM API or SDK (OpenAI, Anthropic/Claude, or equivalent) in a real use case beyond end-user chat.
  • Ability to operate with ambiguity, think structurally about discovery and problem-solving, and prioritize value over features.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills appropriate for a professional remote team environment.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, ask proactive questions, and manage time within a structured 9–5 EST schedule.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with prompt engineering, context management, or output parsing when working with LLMs.
  • Prior experience building tools or workflows that leverage a knowledge base or document corpus.
  • Exposure to marketing or sales enablement content (one-pagers, product briefs, web copy) as an output of technical work.
  • Experience with healthcare IT, e-prescribing, or related regulated industries.
  • Prior internship or project work involving AI integration, content automation, or product-adjacent engineering.

Physical Requirements

This role is 100% remote:

      • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.
      • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
      • Standard schedule: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST. Consistent availability during these hours is required.
      • Reliable internet connection and a suitable workspace are expected.

Benefits

Compensation

  • Competitive compensation with an hourly rate of $20.00 (exact rate may vary based on skills and experience). Eligible for overtime per applicable law.
  • This is an internship position. Standard full-time employee benefits do not apply.
